A sweet, sassy and sensual romance with edge and bite…
It’s safe to say that I’m a massive fan of Melissa Foster. I have her on a rather high pedestal when it comes to punchy, edgy and just purely wonderful romance. This amazing lady just manages to get me every freaking time. I just know that every book Melissa Foster releases is going to make me fall in love – and Truly, Madly, Whiskey certainly lived up to that.
First of all, the characters were just bang on the money. They were multi-faceted and had all these wonderful layers that as a reader you got to unravel little by little with the story progression. Bear Whiskey, the book’s namesake, is phenomenal. He’s the softest of the burliest biker you will probably ever get the joy of getting to know. He’s so beautifully mapped out that you forget that he is a work of literary art. In all honesty I wouldn’t say that Bear goes through the biggest character change because he is who he is and he is nothing short of amazing. I’ve read many a Motorcycle Club book and the characters have this aggressive instinct to protect and possess at all costs. That is most certainly NOT who Bear is. Yes, he is a red blooded alpha male who is protective – but he’s also gentle and he has this gorgeous thing about him where he just wants to do what’s right even if it goes against his grain. Which brings me to Crystal.
Crystal was so easy to identify with from the start. She’s an incredibly courageous and strong female lead that also has a whole lot of vulnerability to her. So here’s the thing – the story centres around Crystal and her past which isn’t pretty. So, with that in mind her character could’ve gone one of two ways; 1) she could be strong and brave or 2) she could be all woe is me, my life has been so hard. I’m so glad that Foster took Crystal down road 1 because it gave the story such an uplift. In my opinion it’s what kept it from going into the dark romance field. A lot of it has to do with Bear, because their chemistry is just explosive. I mean these two have banter locked down and the back and forth between them is so buzzy. I don’t know how else to explain it other than their interactions with one another made me feel excited and happy… just gave me a buzz. However, when they got down and dirty… sheeessh, it was outrageously hot and ground-shaking. It gave you a fever that only a cold shower can cure.
I think it’s safe to say that I really enjoyed this book. I haven’t read Truman’s story yet, but it has been added to my ever growing TBR list. I cannot wait to have more Whiskey in life. Bullet and Bones although secondary characters in Truly, Madly, Whiskey caught my eye. Bullet and Bear’s little comments about him have me so so so curious about the good biker doctor! I think he is gonna be trouble with a capital T and I’m already getting all hot thinking about it….
