In our household bathtime is not only splashing fun time, but it is also how we get the boys to cool down for the day. Kayne and I tend to do it together because it’s a way of having family time once he gets home from work. However, we also like to do it together because it means we can get the boys down quicker and then enjoy some adult time together.
The evening bath is also really important because without it the boys just don’t sleep as soundly if we skip it. For our family it is the ultimate sleep therapy. So, here is our routine and our go to products;
Bathtime, or as Jasper likes to call it “shower time!” is at about 7:30pm. Since Mylo was born we have always bathed both of the boys together. Jasper will sit on the anti slip mat (we use this one) and Mylo uses this Summer Infant Baby Bather we bought when Jasper was a a few weeks old. I cannot recommend this enough, in fact I really should do a post on just the seat – it is AMAZING!
Products wise we use the Uriage Baby Foaming and Cleansing Cream as their soak. It has the most relaxing and dreamy smell that lasts for ages and it makes their skin so beautifully soft and supple.
I don’t like to rush bathtime, unless it’s really late or the kids aren’t enjoying it. This is very rare, we normally can’t get Jasper out. I let them sit in the warm water for 20- 30 minutes, this is such a great and opportune time to get the boys to bond and teach Jasper to play with Mylo gently.
Whilst Kayne watches over them, I like to get their PJs ready and if anything needs a last minute tidy in their rooms I like to do it then. Once they’ve soaked Kayne and I will tag team with the washing down. Mylo uses the Uriage Foaming and Cleansing Cream, whereas Jasper uses a Portuguese brand – Baby Boti from O Boticario – they have an online shop that delivers to Europe. Both of these brands are great, but as Mylo’s skin is drier than Jasper’s it needs an intensive, yet gentle moisture boost and I find that Uriage does that brilliantly. Since Jasper was a baby we’ve used Baby Boti products on him, they are vegan and they are made with the environment in mind. You can learn more here.
After their bath Kayne will get Jasper ready for bed. He will blow dry his hair and put his pants and PJs on. We are currently potty training him, so at night he uses Pamper’s Pants and during the day I normally let him go round the house in just a top and socks, this way he can use the potty whenever he needs, but if we do go out then he uses the pants as well. We tried the Huggies Pull-Ups but they just didn’t work for Jasper, he would wake up in the middle of the night soaked. Once all dressed we will normally out a little of the Baby Boti Perfume on him. This is his favourite bit!
Whilst Kayne spends some time with Jasper I get Mylo ready. Very rarely does Kayne takeover Mylo’s bedtime routine, mainly because I like to give him a little massage. I haven’t taken any classes or gone to baby massage groups – I just search for “baby massage” on youtube and I found this video…
I don’t personally use any of the products used in this video, instead I use the Uriage Baby 1st Gentle Everyday Care moisturising Milk and once I’ve done the massage I will use the Uriage Baby Cold Cream on any particularly dryer patches. At the moment he has Cradle Cap (Milk Crusts) so I use the Uriage Cradle Cap Cream on his face and a little on his scalp, as it isn’t greasy. In fact, I don’t find any of the Uriage Baby range greasy, on the contrary, I find that they leave the skin feeling protected, moisturised and nourished without leaving the skin sticky or feeling like there is a layer of product on it and I think that it’s because the base of all the Uriage products is their Thermal Spring Water. The smell of this range is fabulously soft and lasting. Once he has been pampered and is relaxed I put a Pampers Baby Dry nappy on him and his PJs. I will also give him a light spray with the Uriage Baby 1st Fragrance.
Once both of the boys are ready we give them a warm bottle of Hipp Organics’s Good Night Milk. This just knocks them out till the morning. Both of the boys sleep from about 9pm to 7:30/8am. This routine never fails us, especially with Jasper. Mylo at the moment is going through the teething phase, so once in a while he’ll wake up in the night, but on particularly bad days we give him some Nurofen before bed so it’s very rare.
I hope this is useful and let me know in the comments below if you use any of the products and what you think of them, or if you purchase them and how you like them!
